The finest way to beat mid-winter blues? Sand, sun, and St. Kitts. Here’s our insider access to the island’s penchant for luxurious play.
STAY: Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour. This hideaway opened to great applause just two years ago and has since topped nearly every “best of” list. Why? Locale, for starters. Set amidst meticulously landscaped grounds, with views of the ICEE-blue waters of Banana Bay and nearby Nevis island, the hotel celebrates the unique colonial history of St. Kitts. Having been blessedly bypassed by recent hurricanes, this lesser known neighbor to the BVIs and Anguilla is quickly becoming the new Caribbean “it” island. Book the Park Hyatt’s Presidential Villa, which features a massive private patio and plunge pool. A dedicated butler caters to every whim, while the hotel’s gathering spaces are decked out in subtle yet impactful design details such as white wood paneling and turquoise rattan décor.
SPA: Miraval Life in Balance Spa. The spa alone may be reason enough to jet off to St. Kitts. The brand, with its flagship in Tucson, has been a gamechanger in the industry, well known for its source-to-fork “mindful eating” and equine therapy. Miraval has adopted to island life with a globally inspired treatment menu and dare-to-leave-me views. Its special “Sojourn of Indulgence” is a half-day, head-to-toe immersive experience including four signature Miraval treatments and a healthy spa lunch. What’s more, enticing body treatments include the Salt Bar, which incorporates renewing sea salt, botanicals, and florals. Alternatively, combat dry skin and cellulite with Citrus-Kombucha and Aloe Body Firming Polish.
Pinney’s Beach. Charter a boat for the day and island hop between St. Kitts and Nevis, home to this serene stretch of sand along its west coast.
Basattere. The capitol of Basattere (French for lowland) is small and easy to explore. Spend time at the Immaculate Conception cathedral and St. Kitts National Museum, which displays the nation’s history and impactful leaders.
Friar’s Bay and Baylords. Book an off-road adventure with the Park Hyatt and go deep into the island, including rainforests, scenic Friar’s Bay, and Baylords.
Sugar Cane History. Experience the 350-year history of St. Kitts sugar cane production. A private driver will snake you past sugar mill ruins, plantations, and the famous St. John’s Anglican Church.
SIP & SAVOR:
Salt Plage. For those in the know, this sunset sensation is a must. Cozy up to nautical-inspired lounge chairs and watch the sun curtsy over the ocean’s horizon while a local steel drum band serenades away any to-do list.
The Stone Barn. The Park Hyatt’s fine dining outpost, this Caribbean gem captures the island’s history of stone barns, which were once used to protect St. Kitts’ crops during the wet season. The hotel’s Stone Barn offers adult-only dining for dinner and serves decadent, seasonal cuisine, like the red snapper with sweet potato, purslane, and sauce vierge.
