Where To Go Now, 2.0

A three-part series to top fall getaways.
Next up, San Francisco.

Is your Instagram feed peppered with images of a microcult Napa vino or the 49ers? Make daydreaming from your iPhone a reality with this hit list to a long weekend in San Francisco.

STAY: The boutique Virgin Hotels San Francisco is a posh newcomer to the SoMa (South of Market) district, with a playful personality and impressive interiors. Located a stone’s throw from the Yerba Buena Gardens, the hotel’s Commons Club is creating the most buzz—part of Richard Branson’s vision for the uncommon, including exclusive DJ sets, fashion events, and speakeasy-esque cocktails. Open for stays beginning Nov. 15th.

EAT: The new sea-to-fork Angler SF has west coast foodies swooning over Chef Joshua Skenes’ Embarcadero waterfront outpost. The secret to his smashing success? A vetted group of fishermen, hunters, gatherers, ranchers, and farmers producing the highest quality products in the Bay area. His cooking is anchored in an open-wood fireplace designed specifically for Chef Skenes’s innovative cooking methods. Order fish and meat roasted over the embers, including Monterey abalone, king crab, or a 28-ounze bone-in porterhouse.

SEE: Don’t miss the Contemporary Muslim Fashions exhibit at the de Young Museum. The first global attempt to explore the traditions of Muslim dress codes, it showcases various styles and religious interpretations. View high-end fashions, street wear, sportswear, and commissioned garments from emerging and established designers. Additionally, design frontrunner Ken Fulk has converted a church into the St. Joseph’s Arts Society. The new, ultra-chic hub has become a launchpad for emerging artists and is the venue for Fulk’s storied soirées. What to expect? A cocktail lounge, an Assouline book salon, a French apothecary boutique, and a Carpenter’s Workshop Gallery.

SPORT: The 49ers versus the Oakland Raiders (Nov. 1) is always a top battle at Levi’s Stadium. The two legendary teams have gone head-to-head 13 times, with a 6 (49ers)-7 (Raiders) win history. Pre-game, hit Michael Mina’s members-only tailgate party, which dishes a five-course game day menu by the celebrity chef.

SIP: Take a day trip to Napa and hit the brand new Keplinger Tasting Lounge, tucked away in a side alley in the heart of downtown (926 Franklin Street). The latest offering from Napa wine star Helen Keplinger and husband DJ Warner, the intimate space was personally curated by the dynamic wine duo, with an authentic tasting environment. Every detail of each room, including the library wine cellar, has been hand selected to make you feel like a guest in their own home while enjoying Keplinger’s namesake wines (the robust “Sumo” is a must). Cheers!
