Where To Go Now, 3.0

Our final stop among top fall getaways?
Hello, Chicago.

The best time to visit the Windy City? October and November. Fall season is in full swing, and now’s the time to act on spontaneity, before old man winter stakes his icy claim. A long autumn weekend in Chicago is defined by new art openings, plenty of pro sports, and top tables. Herewith, your antidote to urban decision fatigue.

CHICAGO, IL

STAY: It’s hard to beat The Langham Chicago. As one of the city’s newest five-star gems, the property claims views of the cityscape, Chicago River, and Lake Michigan. Book the one-bedroom, high-level river view suite, with hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and stylish sitting areas. Hold a business meeting during the hotel’s Afternoon Tea with Wedgewood, and don’t miss the Chuan Spa (in Chinese “chuan” means flowing water), which takes its cue from Asian wellness therapies. Try the 130-minute Chuan Tao of Detox treatment, with a ginger bath and customized massage.

EAT: Touted by famous restaurant critics as the top restaurant city in the U.S. currently, the Windy City is giving Manhattan a run for its money with a formidable restaurant scene. Celebrity Chef Stephanie Izard (a regular of the Aspen Food & Wine Classic) has staked her city claim with both The Girl & The Goat and Little Goat, while the Bellemore is a top table for oenophiles, with a wine list that ensures rare vintages for the pickiest of wine geeks.

SEE: Chicago Ideas Week is happening now through Monday Oct. 29th, staging top minds from around the country. See talks by leaders in national policy, well-known business authors, famous outdoor photographers, musicians, and more. With 250 speakers, tickets are selling fast, but you can still snag single tickets to various seminars. If art is more your speed, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to see the new exhibition titled “Enrico David: Gradations of Slow Release.” Expect an evocative experience into the human form (on display through March 10, 2019).

SPORT: Pro games? It’s the DNA of Chicagoans. The city is arguably home to the most dedicated sports fans in the U.S. and nearly every weekend there’s an action-packed fall lineup. The Bears battle The Patriots Sunday October 21. Before heading to the famed Soldier Field, pre-game at the always packed Scout Waterhouse + Kitchen.

SIP: Unwind with a nightcap at the speakeasy The Office at The Aviary. The Aviary has consistently claimed a top spot on most any craft cocktail list, but lesser known is it’s intimate bar, The Office. Order the “Dealer’s Choice” and let vetted mixologists surprise you with a fall-inspired concoction.
